Visual supports help make expectations clear, routines predictable, and communication easier for young children. This section provides ready-to-use visuals designed to build independence, reduce frustration, and support self-regulation in both home and early learning environments.

Welcome to the Visuals section of the Little Roots Pocket Guide! Here, you’ll find practical, child-friendly visual tools that support daily routines, transitions, behavior expectations, emotional awareness, and independence. Visuals can help children understand what comes next, express their needs, and feel more confident navigating their day.

These visuals are designed to be downloaded, printed, and displayed in classrooms or at home. They help children understand routines, expectations, and emotions while supporting independence and self-regulation. When used consistently, visuals make learning predictable, clear, and fun.

Visual supports help make expectations clear, routines predictable, and communication easier for young children. This section provides ready-to-use visuals that build independence, reduce frustration, and support self-regulation in both home and early learning environments. You’ll find tools for daily living routines, transitions, choice-making, behavior expectations, and emotional awareness. Visuals can help children understand what comes next, express their needs, and feel more confident navigating their day.

To use these materials, first download the files and save them in an easily accessible folder. Print the visuals on standard or high-quality paper for durability. Laminating them is recommended to protect against wear and tear and to make them reusable over time. Once printed, place the visuals in locations where children can see and reference them regularly, such as classroom walls, play corners, calm-down areas, or home learning spaces. Encourage children to interact with the visuals, follow step-by-step routines, make choices on choice boards, or check schedules and expectations.

Consistency is key. Refer to the visuals regularly during routines, transitions, and guided activities. Over time, children will learn to reference the tools independently, helping them build confidence and self-regulation skills. Refresh or rotate visuals as needed to reflect changing routines, seasons, or developmental goals. Pairing visuals with verbal guidance and modeling can support younger children or those needing extra help, making the experience interactive and engaging.
